The Photographer

The person behind the lens at Shooting The Dog is Tom Horsley.

Originally Tom started out photographing British wildlife as a hobby, and as a way to unwind from his job in IT. Tom has been a professional photographer for over fifteen years, and has been specialising in pet photography since 2012. His own dog, Fidget, must be one of the most photographed dogs in the country.

A Background In wildlife Photography

Tom soon found that the patience and quick reactions needed for wildlife photography were the perfect grounding for taking on pet photography.

More and more people were asking Tom if he could photograph their pets, so it soon seemed like a good idea to start specialising in this area. He hasn’t looked back.

Tom’s love of dogs, and animals in general, will soon become apparent during your photo shoot. As much time will be spent playing and fussing your pet as taking the photographs.

Tom believes this is important. It is much easier to get a photograph of a relaxed dog if they are having fun and enjoying themselves. It may look like chaos but he sort of knows what he is doing. Well most of the time anyway!

Dog Behaviourist

As well as being a passionate dog lover, Tom has a diploma in dog behaviour from the British College Of Canine Studies. So, you can be assured that your dog is in good hands during their photo shoot.

Dog Behaviour Diploma

If you are looking for help with your basic puppy training then Tom can help there too.

Head Of Security

Sir Fidget Smelly-Bottom

Fidget was the studio dog (and head of security), and has been photographed in many ways. He even has his own facebook page, and always provided a noisy welcome to anyone visiting the studio. He didn’t stay for the photo shoot, as he felt he might become a bit of a distraction, but he could often be heard offering advice from upstairs!

Sadly, Sir Fidget died earlier this year, a replacement for the role of Head Of Security is yet to be found.
